The show was fun and Bloomington was indeed an unexpected pleasure (especially since I went to college in a Bloomington and like to think the song was written about it - no need to tell me if I'm right on this one).
Unfortunately, the Southgate House was a bit of a disappointment. The look and feel have started to cross the line from "quirky dive" to "neglected old house". More importantly, the sound and lighting weren't great. The vocals were hard to distinguish at times (we went with my sister who hadn't heard much of the music and I know she had trouble picking up the lyrics) and poor Murray played in the dark much of the night.
Still, any evening spent with the Old 97s is a good one. It was fun to hear them play some songs I hadn't heard in concert before.
Now, if we can just convince the boys to make more frequent stops in Indiana so I don't always have to leave the state to see them!
