    Cleveland, Detroit, Newport {Cinci) shows

I took a road trip and saw these 3 shown on successive nights.

Cleveland was surprisingly off through no fault of the band. The sound systems were muddy and the crowd didn't seem to ''get it''. Rhett worked the crowd hard to make a connection [he referred to his wife from Cleveland, he mentioned  the Browns and he was animated singing about ''rolling into Cleveland in a 7 seater tour van...'', but the crowd didn't bite. He came out and sang a solo from his album and the crowd really went for it but they never got really excited for the band the whole night which I found odd because Cleveland is a good music town.

Detroit rocked. Great setting and very sophisticated crowd which really got into the music. Rhett didn't have to coax them; they were in a natural frenzy and mouthing all the words of course [unlike Cleveland where very few mouthed the words]. Murray and Ken stayed outside after the gig and talked to fans.

As the other posts said, Newport,KY rocked too. The sound system was a little heavy on bass but the crowd was into it.[Kudos to the blonde go-go girl in the upper balcony who danced all night long; even Rhett acknowledged her]. The band easily worked the crowd up to a natural high and left them floating  after the traditional closer-"Time Bomb".

Thanks to the band for a memorable 3 day  weekend. I like the fact that they mix the music up a bit. They added "Indianapolis" in Newport which was not  on earlier playlists.

"Indianapolis" by the Bottle Rockets??? And Bloomington as well?? They should have stopped in Indy or Chicago on their trip to Iowa after Newport, that way I could have seen them again on this tour. Oh well, they'll be back in Chi-town at some point.

I only wish I had been able to swing all three shows - I am kinda jealous of the Cleveland show.

Newport was wonderfully electric and fun!  Can we do it again soon?

And thanks for the kudos, but I am still trying to figure out how anyone could stop dancing at that show!
